Dawyn & Chantell Hefer
Management / Outfitter / Professional Hunter
Dawyn is the director, outfitter and founder of Umngane Safaris. He is married to Chantell, and they have a daughter Danique 10 years and son Alwyn 6 years. Dawyn has been hunting professionally for over 15 years and has devoted himself to the company for the last 4 years. Chantell oversees the lodge, all the office work and all correspondence with the clients. She is very involved in all aspects of the company, as well as being a dedicated wife and mother.
Armand Du Preez
Assistant Farm Manager / Professional Hunter
Armand has been a part of Umngane Safaris for more than 2 years. Since his arrival, he has completed all the national requirements and exams to be a licensed professional hunter and game farm manager. Armand has accompanied numerous hunters during hunting safaris in Southern Africa. He is also our assistant farm manager.

David H I have hunted with Umngane Safaris many times and although I’ve hunted at other places with other outfitters Umngane is my go to place. Not only are the staff all warm and welcoming but they all try their pmost to make your experience one to remember nothing is too much trouble!
You can hunt a wide range of species with Umngane covering most the species that South Africa has to offer. You can do this in a variety of tartan ranging from wide open plains to spectacular mountains and everything in between.
There is also plenty for the none hunting partner or family member to do such as horse riding/shopping trips/game drives and so on or just relaxing at the spectacular lodge which is second to none and offer top quality food and facilities.
For me going back to Umngane is like going home and the staff are more like friends so why would I go anywhere else!

100% Satisfaction. From first contacting Umngane Safaris to arriving in South Africa was less than 3 weeks. Alwyn set up the import license for the rifles, personally picked us up at the airport, arraigned the Covid test prior to our departure and personally drove us back to the airport. Umngane Lodge and staff catered to every need and were better than any resort I’ve ever been too. With Umngane farm and concessions, I will be returning in the future. Alwyn and Johan were extremely professional PH’s and provided the best hunting experience of my life. I was expecting an adventure, I was not expecting to make such good friends.

Dear Umngane Team, An email is totally inadequate to convey our thanks for the most amazing experience you gave us at Umngane. From the welcome for us (and 7 close friends) at the airport all the way through to the golf club drop off at the end you really looked after us. Your lodge is just out of this world, much larger, more comfortable and well equipped than I had expected. Dawyn, Chantell, Zag, Phina and Stella were all delightful and clearly wanted us all to have a great time – which we did. I don’t know where to start as there were so many highlights packed into each day. Obviously all the wildlife and game were amazing. There has to be special mention of the giraffe and it was amazing to ride among the animals as well as seeing them from our bedroom. The bush lunch parties, complete with tablecloths, were so special.

Both Dawyn & Chantell were quite superb, doing anything and everything to help us have a fantastic free time. Phina’s cooking was delicious. Zag was friendly and helpful, loving the game drives and the riding. There is a light hearted but professional relationship between the men on the farm and the management which nurtures a great spirit at the reserve. The Waterberg is a very unique area that is incredibly easy to fall in love with.
